Of pictures, prices, and creation

Isn't it a blessing that you cannot count the dollars and cents that a picture is really worth ?

That's why artists are such interesting people.

There is something about keeping score that sucks the life-force out of everything. It can turn the most wondrous, the most engrossing activities into little more than accounting entries.

And even if you do put a price on a work of creativity, the fact is that the real worth of it is in its creation and in its consumption - not in the object itself.

So you can auction a painting, but you can never know what the creative process was worth to the artist, or what worth a person who truly admires it puts on it.
